People love to shop at Sam's Club or Costco. I have found that when I go to one of those mega stores that I tend to buy too many things. I have also found that buying in multiples is not necessarily the cheapest. I can get smaller amounts that end up being cheaper (in the long run) than at Costco. My family is decreasing in size and I don't need bulk like we did when the children were at home. If I buy in bulk I tend to buy items that are not perishable or I may buy food if I am having a family barbecue or party.
My advice on not spending too much is to do some price comparisons. Don't give in to your compulsions. Make a list prior to going to Costco or Sam's club and stick to it. If you need to save money buy only what you need! In the long run you won't be sorry.

NEWSPAPER
I have stopped subscribing to any newspaper. I can read most news over the internet (MSNBC, etc) and I also listen daily to the news over the radio on my way to work. If I must have a news paper I buy it from a stand. I do this about once every two weeks. I save the paper to line my bird cages and use it for other purposes. this saves me about 40 dollars every three months.
I miss reading the newspaper, but since it doesn't come before I take off to work it really doesn't matter. Reading it after work doesn't cut it for me any more! So no newspaper! Less waste and better for the environment.

Save money at the checkstand!
There was a time when I would spend up to ten dollars a week for a gossip magazine or tabloid. That has to stop! I am not as interested in Hollywood anymore and I never buy these magazines or newspapers. However, if you still need to feed your curiosity there are online websites where you can read up to date entertainment news and save money by not buying the hard copies!
A well known website is www.tmz.com
Another is www.popeater.com
You should be able to find out whatever you want to know and get the latest scoop on these two sites and others.
Savings: 5-10 dollars per week

Saturday's Tip!
Each Saturday I do grocery shopping. The best way I have been able to save money is by regularly cutting down on my food bill. I do this by shopping at (yes, count them) 3 grocery stores. The first place I hit is the local 99 Cent store where they stock up on vegetables and fruits that are every bit as good as the store I used to shop. On these items I figure I have saved at least 50 dollars off of my food bill. When I can buy raspberries for 99 cents and then head off to another store where they go for over three dollars I feel great about my bargain. Raspberries don't last too long in the refrigerator so I immediately place them in the freezer just as they are. I take out as many as I want (to flavor shakes or drinks) for individual uses. I purchased 6 little boxes for 6 dollars. In the stores I would have spent between 15 and 18 dollars for the same thing.
I am still learning techniques to spend less and I will share as I go. Happy Saving!
